Life on board during the Discoveries: the real daily life
Life on board Discoveries reveals the daily reality of sailors, marked by hardship, routine and constant risks.

To mark the date, we hosted the storytime session “Contos de Amor Além-Mar”, a journey through love stories that faced distance, crossed oceans, and endured over time. Inspired by the Age of Discoveries, these narratives reminded us of a simple, powerful idea: even when the sea separated continents, some feelings never lost their way.
And we didn’t stop there. During the Age of Discoveries, many navigators spent months, sometimes years, far from home. Letters became the most precious link between those who
left and those who stayed behind: words filled with longing, hope, and the promise of return.
Inspired by that tradition, we invited visitors to write their own “Carta Além-Mar”. Each person could create a special message and take it with them to hand-deliver to someone important.
The result? Emotion, smiles, and countless shared moments across our galleries.
The response confirmed what we believe every day: the museum is a living space, where History gains new layers through thematic, participatory experiences.
Initiatives like this one reinforce World of Discoveries’ commitment to creating unique moments that engage families, couples, groups of friends and schools, always with History as the starting point and emotion as the destination.
Because here, stories don’t stay in the past. They are lived. They are felt. And they continue to be written… every day.
